Meta is betting that social AI lives or dies on personalization, and its new Muse Image model is the opening move. Built inside Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, Muse now powers image generation across Instagram, WhatsApp, and the Meta AI app, with Facebook and Messenger to follow. The headline feature lets users @ mention other Instagram accounts so the AI can pull public photos and incorporate real people’s likenesses into generated images, a capability that collapses the distance between social content and AI-native creative.

What this means for your business

Brand marketers sitting on Instagram presences built over a decade should pay close attention to the likeness feature before their community does. Any public account, including brand accounts and brand ambassadors, is now fair game for Muse Image prompts by default. The opt-out controls exist, but the default is open. That means your brand’s visual identity, and your influencer partners’ faces, can appear in AI-generated content you did not commission, did not approve, and may not even see before it circulates.

The deeper issue is that Meta is quietly redefining what a social graph is for. It was built to connect people; Muse repurposes it as a training and rendering surface. Public photos become raw material for personalized image generation at scale. For brands, this is less a creative opportunity than a governance gap that just opened up. Influencer contracts written before this week almost certainly do not address AI likeness use triggered by third-party @mentions, and that is a legal exposure sitting inside your existing partner roster right now.

The CMO who moves first here isn’t the one who drafts the most creative Muse campaigns. It’s the one who audits influencer agreements and account visibility settings before a user-generated deepfake of a brand ambassador surfaces in a campaign the brand had nothing to do with. If your influencer contracts are up for renewal in the next two quarters, the likeness clause is the line item that just changed in value.
