Anthropic is turning Claude into a persistent team member inside Slack, not just a chatbot you ping one-off. Claude Tag lets organizations grant Claude channel-level access, connect it to tools and codebases, and have it work asynchronously on delegated tasks. The headline number: 65% of Anthropic’s own product team’s code is now generated by an internal version of the product. Available today in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers, it runs on Opus 4.5 and replaces the existing Claude in Slack app.

What this means for your business

The shift from “AI assistant you invoke” to “AI teammate that persists in your channels” is not cosmetic. A developer who tags @Claude to debug a production issue and then goes to another meeting comes back to a thread of completed work. That async loop, multiplied across dozens of engineers, is where the productivity math actually starts to compound. One-shot prompts were always the wrong unit of analysis for enterprise AI value.

The architectural decision worth scrutinizing is scoped channel identity: a Claude configured for sales won’t leak memory or data into an engineering channel. That’s not just a privacy feature, it’s the enterprise procurement unlock. Most AI deployments stall because security and legal can’t define a clean blast radius. Anthropic is making the blast radius explicit and administrator-controlled, which directly addresses the governance objection that kills pilot-to-production transitions at large organizations.

The question worth holding: how does your organization handle accountability when an autonomous Claude, running a multi-day task with no human in the loop, makes a consequential mistake in a production system? Anthropic offers audit logs and token spend caps, but governance frameworks for async AI workers don’t yet exist at most enterprises. That gap will surface before the productivity gains do. The signal worth watching is whether early Enterprise customers publish incident frameworks, not just productivity metrics.

Concept deep-dive: Ambient AI agency

Claude Tag’s “ambient” mode means the model proactively surfaces information it judges relevant without being asked. This exists because most enterprise value is trapped in unasked questions: the metric that slipped, the thread that went quiet, the support ticket no one followed up. Think of it as a staff member who reads every Slack channel and taps you on the shoulder when something needs attention. The business connection is real, but so is the risk: an AI deciding what’s important enough to interrupt you is exercising judgment your organization hasn’t formally delegated to it yet.
