Share with your COO
Based on limited public information from hospitalityInside.com, a paywalled session recap from the HITT Brussels conference frames AI-enabled supply chain data as an active revenue tool for hotels, not just a cost-control function. MindClick CEO JoAnna Abrams presented evidence that procurement transparency is winning hotel contracts, while Wyndham’s EMEA president Dimitris Manikis offered a franchisee-level reality check on adoption. The two disagreed on pace and practicality. No figures are visible behind the paywall.
What this means for your business
The interesting provocation here is directional even if the detail stays locked. Procurement data, meaning the verified record of what a hotel buys, from whom, and under what sustainability or compliance conditions, has historically been a back-office cost story. If Abrams is right that it’s becoming a forward-facing differentiator that closes group or corporate contracts, the COO is the one who owns the translation problem, bridging the sourcing team and the commercial team, who rarely share a reporting line or a vocabulary.
Manikis’s pushback is worth taking seriously. Franchised hotel networks, which describe the majority of Wyndham’s footprint, run on owner economics where capital allocation is fragmented across thousands of independent operators. A franchisor can mandate brand standards, but it can’t compel a franchisee to invest in supply chain intelligence platforms that benefit the flag more than the asset. That structural tension is the real constraint on how fast this thesis plays out at scale, and it won’t be resolved by better AI.
The procurement-as-sales-signal thesis only holds if buyers, corporate travel managers or group planners, actually weight it in their RFP scoring. If that shift is real and measurable, the COO needs to know before the next contract cycle, because the hotels that can present verified supply chain credentials will have a response ready that competitors without that data simply can’t match. I’d revise the urgency down significantly if it turns out procurement data is still a tiebreaker at best rather than a primary evaluation criterion.
