The company named five executives across sales, marketing, and product, with three of the five sitting inside the sales org, including new CSO Adam Block, who spent eight years at rival Medallia before a stint as CRO at Motive. The leadership rebuild follows a year of turnover since Jason Maynard took the CEO seat in February, including five senior departures in April. Strategy and IT seats lost in April remain unfilled.

What this means for your business

If Qualtrics is in your experience management stack, or on your shortlist, the shape of this rebuild matters more than the names. A company that clears its product leadership, shrinks the product org from two senior seats to one, and then triples down on sales isn’t signaling a product-led growth story. It’s signaling that the current product needs to be sold harder, not rethought faster. Whether you’re a Qualtrics customer defending your renewal or a buyer evaluating the market, that distinction should inform what questions you ask in the next vendor conversation.

The Medallia angle runs deeper than competitive theater. Medallia hired Mark Bishof as CEO in January 2025 and brought four former Qualtrics and Clarabridge executives with him in a coordinated talent raid. Qualtrics pulling Block from Medallia’s alumni bench is a one-for-one response, but the asymmetry is real: Medallia made a CEO-level statement about where it wanted to go, and Qualtrics answered with a sales hire. That’s not a knock on Block, who ran enterprise revenue at a legitimate competitor for nearly a decade. It’s a read on which company is playing offense on category definition and which is playing offense on revenue capture.

The unfilled Strategy and IT seats are the most underreported signal in this announcement. Maynard came from Oracle and NetSuite, closed a $6.75 billion acquisition of Press Ganey Forsta three months into his tenure, and now leaves corporate strategy leadership vacant while rebuilding the sales floor. One reading is that he’s acting as de facto strategy chief himself, which is plausible for a founder-mode CEO. Another reading is that integration planning for a multi-billion dollar acquisition is running without a dedicated executive owner. I’d revisit this view if a strategy hire surfaces in the next 90 days; if it doesn’t, the integration risk deserves a line in your vendor risk assessment.

Based on reporting from Qualtrics Hires Medallia Sales Vet as CSO, Part of Five-Exec Leadership, originally published 2026-07-13 20:17:00.

Share with your CMO/CRO Qualtrics is betting its next chapter on sales execution, not product vision.
