Launched in early 2023, Nadia is now deployed at scale across Delta, General Mills, Prudential, and Experian, typically entering through performance-review prep or new-manager coaching before expanding into conflict resolution and change management. Valence has more than tripled in scale over the past year, driven by existing customers expanding across their entire organizations.

What this means for your business

The story here isn’t really about Nadia as a product. It’s about whether AI coaching becomes a system of record for people development the way CRM became a system of record for revenue. CHROs sitting on annual renewal cycles for legacy learning management systems (LMS) and performance platforms should recognize the pattern: adoption is sporadic, impact is unmeasurable, and the tools exist to satisfy compliance rather than change behavior. Nadia’s reported NPS and engagement numbers, if they hold at scale, expose just how low that bar has been.

Bessemer writing this piece is an investor announcing a portfolio bet, which tilts the framing toward enthusiastic adoption curves and glosses over the harder question of what happens when coaching AI surfaces sensitive interpersonal data inside large enterprises. The “escalation guardrails” mention is a single sentence, not an architecture. For any CHRO considering deployment, the actual risk lives in the data governance layer, specifically who owns conversation history, how it’s classified, and whether an employee’s candid disclosure to an AI coach can travel to their manager or HR without their knowledge. That’s not a product critique, it’s the conversation that has to happen before a company like Prudential rolls this out to frontline workers.

The deeper shift worth watching is that if AI coaches accumulate longitudinal data on manager behavior, communication patterns, and team dynamics, the CHRO function acquires analytical leverage it has never had. That’s genuinely new. But it also means the CHRO who deploys Nadia in 2025 and the CHRO who inherits it in 2027 are working with very different tools, and the institutional memory problem cuts both ways. The falsification condition for this whole category is simple: if retention and performance lift don’t survive the move from pilot cohorts to full-org rollouts, the engagement numbers were a Hawthorne effect, not a platform effect.

Based on reporting from Meet Nadia: Valence’s AI coach for leadership development and workplace collaboration, originally published 2025-09-25 03:00:00.

Share with your CHRO Bessemer Venture Partners is betting $50 million that AI coaching becomes the default infrastructure for enterprise talent development, leading a Series B into Valence and its AI coach Nadia.
