If your planning systems don&#8217;t share state with your execution systems, no individual agent can fix that, and SAP&#8217;s pitch is precisely that integration at the data and workflow layer is the precondition for any autonomous capability to actually land. Whether you&#8217;re a believer or a skeptic, that framing forces a concrete question about your own stack&#8217;s architecture before you evaluate any individual AI feature.<\/p>\n<p>The structural claim SAP is making deserves scrutiny on its own terms. Embedding AI agents inside the same platform that holds the transactional data does eliminate a real failure mode, the latency and translation loss that happens when a third-party AI tool has to interpret an ERP&#8217;s output rather than read it directly. But it also concentrates vendor dependency in a way that should make any CIO pause. If the argument sticks, the switching cost for a competitor&#8217;s agentic supply chain product rises sharply, because the competitor can&#8217;t offer the same native data access. Watch whether SAP publishes independently verifiable benchmark numbers from named enterprise customers after September.
