Data center now represents 58 percent of total company revenue, which itself reached a record $11.5 billion. CEO Lisa Su is projecting data center revenue to more than double again in 2027. Gaming dropped 31 percent to $779 million, the collateral damage of component cost pressure, but AMD isn’t losing sleep over it.

What this means for your business

If your organization is still treating Nvidia as the only viable AI compute vendor, AMD’s trajectory is the argument against that assumption. The pattern of single-vendor dependency in infrastructure always looks safe until supply tightens or pricing leverage shifts to the seller. AMD at $6.7 billion in quarterly data center revenue isn’t a challenger narrative anymore. CTOs evaluating GPU clusters and accelerator procurement for 2026 and 2027 roadmaps now have a second credible volume supplier, which changes the negotiating table whether or not AMD wins the benchmarks.

The gaming decline is actually clarifying, not concerning. AMD is consciously concentrating engineering and manufacturing capacity toward data center silicon, the same strategic narrowing that defined Nvidia’s ascent. When a company willingly accepts a 31 percent revenue drop in a segment, it’s signaling where the margin and growth are, and where they aren’t. For enterprise buyers, a supplier that has made this kind of visible commitment to your segment is more predictable on roadmap continuity than one that still hedges across consumer markets.

Su’s forward guidance, data center doubling again in 2027, is the number that should land on your infrastructure planning horizon. Vendor roadmaps are marketing until they’re backed by two consecutive quarters of accelerating revenue, and AMD now has both. The decision this reframes isn’t whether to evaluate AMD, it’s whether your current Nvidia contract structure still reflects a world where AMD was an afterthought. If your renewal is inside the next 18 months, the leverage calculation has changed.

Based on reporting from AMD’s data center business is booming while gaming takes a backseat, originally published 2026-08-04 16:57:00.

Share with your CTO AMD is betting its future on AI infrastructure, and the numbers are starting to make that bet look prescient.
