Microsoft shipped Copilot Studio computer-use agents<\/a> into general availability on May 13, making it the first major platform to offer this capability at production scale. The agents control any Windows application through its visual interface, clicking buttons and typing into fields, no API required. The GA release adds Azure Key Vault credential storage, Microsoft Purview audit logging with session replay, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and Windows 365 Cloud PC isolation. Pricing runs on Copilot Credits at five credits per step, roughly $0.04 per step. Anthropic and Google remain in beta and preview respectively.<\/p>\n

Every enterprise IT shop carries a list of workflows that never got automated because the system involved predates modern APIs and the RPA scripts break every time a vendor updates their portal. Invoice processing through legacy vendor portals, record updates in decade-old line-of-business tools, data extraction from internal systems that were never designed to integrate: these are exactly the workflows Copilot Studio is now targeting. A computer-use agent controls software through its graphical interface rather than an API. Instead of calling a structured endpoint, the agent takes screenshots, interprets what’s on screen using a vision model, and issues mouse clicks and keystrokes to proceed. Think of it as the difference between a bank’s ATM API and someone physically operating an ATM on your behalf.
