Salesforce is betting that AI agents are now a line item, not a feature, and one quarter of data makes that case harder to dismiss. The company’s Agentforce ARR crossed $1.5 billion, up 240% year over year, while the combined Agentforce and Data 360 figure hit $3.9 billion. Salesforce also logged 3.2 billion Agentic Work Units in a single quarter, up 97% sequentially. A Claudeforce partnership with Anthropic launched the same week, embedding Claude directly into Salesforce workflows with 37 prebuilt sales skills.
What this means for your business
Revenue organizations that have been treating AI agents as a 2027 problem now have a public company reporting contracted demand at scale, and that changes the vendor conversation you’re already in. If your CRM renewal or platform expansion is coming up in the next two quarters, Salesforce’s ARR figures give their sales team a credibility argument that wasn’t available six months ago. Whether you’re a Salesforce shop or a competitor’s customer, the pressure to have an agentic story for your sales floor just got concrete.
The Anthropic gain deserves a clear-eyed read before you use this quarter as proof of anything. About $2.53 of Salesforce’s $5.90 adjusted EPS came from investment gains tied to its Anthropic stake, not from selling more software. Strip that out and the operating result is solid, not spectacular. The reason this matters for vendor evaluation is that companies sometimes change metric definitions alongside strong-looking quarters, and Salesforce did exactly that here: Agentforce ARR now includes AI offerings, Slackbot, and Headless 360 that weren’t in the prior count. The underlying growth is real; the magnitude deserves a footnote.
The Claudeforce announcement is the more durable signal for revenue leaders. Embedding Claude’s reasoning directly inside Salesforce data and workflows, rather than running it as a parallel chatbot, is an architectural choice that raises the cost of switching away from the platform. If your team ends up trained on Claude-inside-Salesforce, that’s a stickier dependency than a CRM subscription alone. The renewal you’re negotiating today may carry a very different lock-in profile by the time it comes back around, and that’s the variable worth pricing now.
Concept deep-dive: Agentic Work Units
An Agentic Work Unit is Salesforce’s counting metric for discrete tasks completed autonomously by an AI agent, think of it as a transaction receipt for work the software did without a human clicking through it. The measure exists because traditional software metrics like seats or logins don’t capture how often an agent acts on a user’s behalf. For revenue leaders, it’s the closest available proxy for whether agents are actually replacing manual steps or just sitting idle inside an expensive SKU.
