Swedish cloud consultancy Opsio is betting that documentation anxiety, not technical complexity, is the real blocker for EU AI Act compliance among mid-market European companies. Its free AI Governance and Readiness Assessment takes roughly 40 minutes to complete and outputs four named, editable policy documents covering acceptable use, vendor due diligence, risk assessment, and an overarching governance framework. The tool scores maturity across ten governance domains and maps outputs to the EU AI Act, GDPR, ISO 42001, and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework. No credit card, no consulting engagement required.

What this means for your business

The AI literacy obligation under the EU AI Act has been in force since February 2025, and the broader governance and penalty provisions since August 2025. Fines for serious violations reach EUR 35 million or 7 percent of global annual turnover. If your organization is still treating AI policy as a future-quarter project, the compliance window has already been closing for months. The companies most exposed are mid-size enterprises where shadow AI, meaning employees using personal ChatGPT or Copilot accounts on company data without any sanctioned policy, is widespread and invisible.

Opsio’s offering is genuinely useful as a starting point, and the free-with-no-obligation structure removes the friction that keeps most policy conversations stuck in procurement. But the documents it generates are explicitly drafts, not legal advice, and not certification evidence. The gap between a generated acceptable-use policy and a defensible compliance posture is real. Regulators will want to see evidence that policies were reviewed, approved, and actually communicated to staff, none of which a 40-minute questionnaire can accomplish. The tool gets you to the starting line, not the finish.

The more interesting signal here is market demand pressure rather than regulatory pressure. Opsio’s own quote names customer tenders asking suppliers for written AI policies, and that procurement dynamic is likely spreading faster than enforcement. If your enterprise customers or partners are starting to include AI governance attestation in vendor questionnaires, the absence of a documented policy becomes a revenue problem before it becomes a legal one. A generated draft, reviewed and signed off by legal, beats a blank page in any supplier audit, which is probably the real use case Opsio is selling into.
