Polaris Office is betting that the fastest path into enterprise security is through the AI governance gap most companies have already created. Partnering with Netwrix under an MSP arrangement signed in April, the company is wrapping Netwrix’s Endpoint Protector DLP (data loss prevention, software that monitors and blocks unauthorized data transfers) around generative AI workflows, so sensitive data entered into AI tools can be intercepted before it leaves the organization. The pitch is granular policy control by department and role, not a blanket AI ban. The cross-sell play targets Polaris’s existing enterprise productivity customer base across AI, cloud, and security.

What this means for your business

The story that actually matters here isn’t Polaris specifically, it’s the category dynamic their launch confirms. Productivity software vendors now have a credible on-ramp into enterprise security, because they already sit inside the document and workflow layer where sensitive data gets handled. CISOs who assumed their DLP vendor relationships were stable should check whether those vendors are also their productivity stack, because the bundling logic is now running in the opposite direction.

The Polaris approach, inspecting what employees type into generative AI tools before it exits the network, is a reasonable first-generation control. But the harder architectural question it sidesteps is what happens when AI is not a discrete endpoint employees visit but an embedded capability inside every application. Netwrix’s Endpoint Protector was designed for a world of identifiable data egress points. That model works today. It gets structurally complicated as AI inference moves inside the SaaS tools already on the approved vendor list, and interception at the AI query layer becomes harder to enforce consistently.

The falsification condition here is adoption data. If Polaris signs enterprise accounts outside its existing productivity base, it validates that AI-era DLP is genuinely repositioning the security vendor landscape. If the wins cluster entirely within current Polaris customers, this is a retention and upsell play dressed as a market entry, which is a reasonable business but a much smaller signal for everyone else’s vendor strategy.
