Deloitte India is betting that enterprise architecture, the discipline of mapping how an organisation’s applications, data, and technology fit together, belongs inside AI governance, not alongside it. The firm has partnered with Avolution to implement its ABACUS platform across BFSI clients in South Asia, starting with India. ABACUS surfaces dependencies, models the impact of technology changes, and tracks where AI models are running and what risks they carry. Deloitte leads implementation; Avolution gains a distribution channel into large regulated enterprises.

What this means for your business

If your enterprise architecture practice still lives in a PowerPoint deck that gets refreshed once a year, this deal signals that a credible alternative is being institutionalised. Banks and insurers in South Asia are the initial target, but the underlying pressure applies anywhere AI adoption is outrunning the organisation’s ability to see what it has deployed and why. CIOs who already own a mature architecture function are insulated; those running AI pilots without a connected view of their technology estate are exactly the buyer this alliance is designed to reach.

Richard Ward’s line, “you cannot automate what you cannot see,” is a sales pitch, but it points at a real failure mode. Organisations routinely approve AI initiatives without knowing which systems feed them, which downstream processes depend on them, or what a model failure would cascade into. Enterprise architecture tooling, when it’s wired into actual transformation programmes rather than treated as a documentation exercise, gives the CIO a live answer to those questions. The Deloitte angle matters here because the recurring problem with EA platforms isn’t the software, it’s that the insights never reach the investment decision.

Deloitte’s implementation role is the structural tell. Pure advisory firms hand off to systems integrators; firms that want recurring platform influence take the implementation seat. Avolution gets Deloitte’s enterprise relationships and delivery credibility; Deloitte gets a platform layer that deepens its stickiness in accounts already paying for transformation work. I’d revisit this read if early BFSI deployments show ABACUS being adopted as standalone tooling rather than embedded in Deloitte-led programmes, because that would mean the integration thesis isn’t holding in practice.
