Mercer is betting that CHROs are ready to stop asking analysts for benchmark reports and start querying them directly. The firm launched two AI-powered workforce analytics platforms this week: Workforce Insights, which surfaces talent benchmarks across 100-plus countries and 20,000 organizations, and Aida, a natural-language AI assistant embedded in Mercer’s existing Talent All Access Portal. Parent company Marsh McLennan carries nearly $99 billion in market cap and reported $7 billion in Q2 2025 revenue, so this isn’t a startup making noise. It’s an incumbent converting its data moat into a product.
What this means for your business
The CHRO this matters to is one who already pays for Mercer benchmarking data and wonders why extracting insight from it still requires a consulting engagement. If your organization subscribes to Mercer’s Talent All Access Portal, Aida lands inside a contract you’re probably already renewing. If you don’t, this announcement is a competitive signal about where the floor is moving: natural-language access to cross-industry workforce benchmarks is becoming a baseline expectation, not a premium feature.
Mercer’s core play here is distribution, not invention. The company has spent decades accumulating compensation, skills, and workforce data from tens of thousands of organizations. What’s changed is the interface. Wrapping that data in a conversational AI layer, one where an HR analyst types a question and gets a benchmarked answer rather than submitting a request to a consultant, compresses the time between question and decision. The risk Mercer doesn’t advertise is that a faster interface also exposes the limits of the underlying data faster. Garbage benchmarks with a chatbot front end fail more visibly than garbage benchmarks buried in a PDF.
CHROs who’ve been building the case internally that HR deserves a seat at the strategy table will find this framing useful: Mercer’s own research, which the company has every incentive to emphasize given it sells into this buyer, claims CHROs are increasingly using data to secure funding and advise business leaders. The products are designed to make that case easier to sustain. The decision this actually reframes is whether your current workforce analytics stack, likely a patchwork of your HRIS exports and a separate benchmarking subscription, still makes sense when one vendor is offering the benchmark and the query layer together. That’s a consolidation conversation, not a replacement one, and it belongs in your next contract review.
