Salesforce is betting its next growth chapter on Agentforce, its autonomous AI agent platform, which closed more than 8,000 enterprise deals last quarter while the underlying data infrastructure, Data Cloud, grew 120% year over year. Q1 FY2027 revenue hit $9.83 billion, up 8%, with contracted future revenue growing 11% to $29.5 billion. The stock is still down 26% this year, trading at roughly 14 times forward earnings, even as operating income has grown nearly 20 times since FY2021.
What this means for your business
If your organization is already a Salesforce customer, the Agentforce traction numbers matter more to you than to anyone watching this as a stock story. Eight thousand deals in a single quarter is not a pilot program, it is a product line finding its feet, and that changes the renewal conversation. Companies sitting on standard Sales Cloud or Service Cloud contracts should expect their account teams to arrive with Agentforce pricing attached to the next expansion discussion. The question is whether your enterprise is ready to evaluate autonomous agents as a cost-displacement play, a revenue-generation layer, or both, because Salesforce’s pitch will assume you’ve already answered it.
The part of this story that gets underweighted is what Agentforce actually does differently from the AI assistants most CRO teams have already encountered. A conventional AI chatbot generates a response and stops. An Agentforce agent reads the customer record, updates the pipeline stage, routes the lead, and closes the ticket, all inside the Salesforce product suite, without a human approving each step. That is a genuinely different operational model, and the 120% Data Cloud growth figure suggests customers are feeding it real data at scale. The catch is that autonomous action inside a CRM is only as good as the data hygiene underneath it. Dirty pipeline data that a human rep navigated around will not be navigated around by an agent; it will produce wrong outputs confidently.
The bear case here is straightforward: 8,000 deals does not yet show up as revenue reacceleration. Growth is still 8%, and the leap from deal count to contracted ARR expansion is exactly the gap the market is penalizing. Any CRO evaluating Agentforce as a vendor should treat the current deployment cohort as a real-world proof period, one that will resolve within the next two or three quarters. If renewal and expansion rates from early Agentforce customers come in strong in the back half of FY2027, the skepticism evaporates fast. If churn or shelf-ware patterns emerge instead, 14 times earnings will look generous rather than cheap.
Concept deep-dive: Agentic AI
Agentic AI refers to software that pursues a goal across multiple steps by taking real actions in connected systems, rather than just answering a question. Think of the difference between a GPS that tells you to turn left and a self-driving car that turns the wheel. In an enterprise CRM context, an agentic system can qualify a lead, log the interaction, schedule a follow-up, and update the forecast without a rep touching the record. The business stakes are high because errors compound across steps rather than stopping at a single bad output.
