Zayo building ahead of demand rather than behind it is either shrewd positioning or expensive overreach, and the 15,000 route miles already underway suggests the company has decided which side of that bet it’s on.

The vendor renewal or architecture decision this actually touches is connectivity procurement for any enterprise running distributed AI workloads, particularly those spinning up inference capacity in secondary markets. Hyperscalers negotiate private fiber. Neoclouds and enterprise AI teams don’t have that option, which means their practical bandwidth ceiling is set by whatever shared infrastructure exists in the corridors their compute lands in. If Zayo’s buildout materializes on the announced timeline, it shifts the competitive geography of AI deployment. I’d revise that read only if the six net-new routes turn out to serve corridors where enterprise AI demand doesn’t actually concentrate.
