Minicor is betting that the biggest brake on enterprise AI adoption isn’t model quality, it’s the gap between modern AI tooling and the legacy desktop software still running critical operations in healthcare, financial services, and logistics. The San Francisco startup, co-founded by Nigerian engineer Saheed Akinbile and Faizaan Chishtie, raised $3.8 million in seed funding led by IA Ventures, with Y Combinator and Paul Graham among the participants. Its platform converts legacy desktop workflows into API endpoints that AI agents can call without touching the underlying system.
What this means for your business
The shops that need to pay attention are those running AI pilots that keep stalling not on the AI side but on the integration side. If your engineers are still hand-rolling connectors between a modern AI layer and a desktop application that predates REST APIs, Minicor is describing your problem exactly. The companies that aren’t affected are those who already ripped out legacy systems or run on a modern SaaS stack where API coverage is complete. Most enterprises sit somewhere in the middle, which is a wider audience than Minicor’s seed round implies.
The technical design choice here is worth examining. Minicor’s hybrid approach, using AI agents to build and repair workflows but executing routine operations through deterministic, pre-scripted steps, is a direct answer to a failure mode that’s become common in early enterprise agentic deployments. Letting an AI agent re-interpret a screen on every single interaction introduces latency, unpredictable behavior, and compute costs that compound fast at scale. Locking the execution path into structured automation once the workflow is established is more conservative but significantly more reliable for the repetitive, high-volume tasks that operations teams actually care about.
A $3.8 million seed round is a signal worth calibrating carefully. This validates the thesis that legacy integration is a real bottleneck, but Minicor has no publicly named enterprise customers yet, and the RPA (robotic process automation, software that mimics human clicks to drive legacy applications) graveyard is full of well-funded startups that solved the same technical problem and couldn’t solve the enterprise sales problem. If Minicor lands a named design partner in healthcare or financial services within the next two quarters, the thesis firms up considerably. Without that, the interesting bet is still unproven.
Concept deep-dive: API endpoint
An API endpoint is a specific address in software where one application can send a request and receive a response, like a labeled door between two systems. Legacy desktop software often has no such doors. Minicor’s core move is to wrap those applications in new doors by observing and scripting how a human would interact with the interface, then exposing that workflow as a callable address. That’s what lets a modern AI agent drive a 20-year-old desktop application without the application itself being rebuilt.
