The cost of that convenience is now appearing: organizations that locked into proprietary video management systems in 2018 are discovering they can’t attach modern AI analytics without a rip-and-replace. CISOs reviewing renewal terms on existing physical security contracts should treat API access and interoperability commitments as non-negotiable line items, not nice-to-haves. The vendor that won’t commit to open integration in writing is telling you something about how they plan to extract value from you as AI capabilities mature.
